Would a water meter work for you?
There could be many benefits to having a water meter installed, the most obvious one being the chance to save money by reducing your water usage, water wastage and, therefore, bills. Any savings you are likely to make depend on how much you pay now for water and waste, the number of people living in the property and how much water you use.
People living alone in properties with a high rateable value tend to get most financial benefit from having a water meter installed, but this isn't always the case. Water meters are usually free to install and you can usually request their removal (to return to traditional billing) after a certain amount of time, if you're unhappy with the way they're working for you.
One other thing. With today's technology, a water meter can be read automatically from outside your property. There's no longer any need to be waiting around at home for someone to call to read your meter.

Reading your meter
If you have a water meter installed we will charge you based on the volume of water waste we have removed which is based on the volume of water consumed at your property, plus a fee for the standing charge.
Finding your water meter should be straightforward. It's probably fitted outside your home near your outside stop tap. It will be under a small metal or plastic cover in your driveway, garden or nearby footpath. If, however, your meter is inside your home it can usually be found under the kitchen sink, by your inside stop tap.

Your usage is usually easy to read and record as water meters are very much like today's modern meters for electricity and gas, with similar numerical displays. So, once you've located our meter, open the cover carefully with the tip of a screwdriver. The black digits record the consumption in cubic metres. Read from left to right to obtain the current reading. Ignore any red figures.
Once you've done that please enter the details on the form below and send it to us.
Sometimes we will produce your bill based on an estimated reading rather than an actual reading. Don't worry though, we'll take an actual reading at least once a year to ensure you are paying the correct amount for your water waste and drainage.
